WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT'S ASSOCIATION DINNER

To say I've been busy this past week is an understatement. I've been starting work at 7.30 and not finishing at home until after ten, all whilst revising for my theory test, driving lessons, learning to bake some gorgeous banana and chocolate chip muffins and trying to find ways to make a little extra money. So sorry for the complete lack of posts, I know you all know what it feels like when life takes over and the blogging world has to come to an abrupt halt. It was funny, but it also felt like a relief because recently I'd found myself writing a post for the sake of it, then deleting them the morning after when the realisation hit that I wouldn't usually blog about something like this if I wasn't rushed off my feet and just wanted to fill a spot.

So for my first post back (the three below are sponspored ads btw) I wanted to take a look at the best dressed from last nights White House Correspondents Association Dinner. What a mix of invites that was! I especially loved the fact that good old LiLo turned up with her lawyer, like they were besties. She actually looked half decent in a crack-head-scrubbed-up kind of way.

The look of the night had to the go to the First Lady herself Mrs Michelle Obama in a gorgeous strapless Naeem Khan - a designer which has had more red carpet moments recently than I've had embarrassing stalling moments on my first driving lessons (which, by the way, is a hell of a lot!). From her hooped earrings to her Farah Fawcett flicks, the whole look was divine. This isn't the best picture of the dress itself but Michelle looks perfect.

My second and third favourite looks from the night came from Leslie Mann and Kerry Washington. Leslie's one shouldered dress was another one of Naeem Khans and certainly did the trick for the actress on the night. Although I wouldn't liked to have been wearing the same designer as the First Lady...that awkward moment when. Kerry Washington meanwhile continued her stint as Calvin Klein muse in this gorgeous coral sleek number. Simple hair and make-up finished this polished look off perfectly.

When  I first spotted Kim Kardashian from the front in this green velvet floor length gown, I thought all though it was very Old School Hollywood, it was a little boring. That was until she turned around to reveal an open panel on her back. New beau Kanye West was no where to be seen although Obama did at one point called him a 'douche bag' so no wonder his invite 'got lost in the post'. Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks meanwhile, continues her assault on the red carpet with this gorgeous red Antonio Berardi dress, complete with peplum hem. The colour looks gorgeous on Elizabeth and this goes to show no citrus shade will be left untouched after the actresses yellow and orange Ellie Saab numbers she wore during the HG promotional tour.

Kate Hudson looked stunning at the event, coming along with her mum Goldie Hawn and both rocking gorgeous looks. Kate was, surprisingly, wearing a Jenny Packham number when I fully expected her to wear Stella McCartney. This purple sequined number only highlighted how svelte the actress looks only months after giving birth. Giving us a little leg for the event, Sofia Vergara wore a knee length black David Meester dress with jacquard print and gem stone waist belt. I absolutely love this style of dress, suited perfectly to my bottom heavy figure. If only I had breasts as magnificent as Sofia's!

Other looks on the night that killed it came from Elle McPherson, Rachel Zoe, Kate Upton, Reese Witherspoon, Charlize Theron and Rashida Jones.

ARTYFARTY COOKING

So yesterday was the big day - the day I cooked my first three course meal from scratch. I decided to say thank you to mum and dad for having me back for a while with a trial run of my cooking skills although some might say that's no way to say thank your parents!

I actually shocked myself with how well I did despite one certain incident including a raw potato. For starter we had homemade chicken liver pate with red onion chutney and toasted french bread. Yum. For the main course I cooked sirloin steak with mushrooms sauteed in garlic, thick cut homemade chips with a peppercorn sauce - not too much pepper to appease my dad obviously. Lastly I made a chocolate souffle and was impressed with how well it rose - I underestimated myself in the kitchen but yesterday proved that I'm actually ok, with a recipe book to follow. Mary Berry I salute you.

This actually leads me nicely into today's blog post. ArtyFarty Cooking is my friend Lauren's blog and it's amazing blend of art and food. Seen as these are my two favourite things (apart from men) I was so happy to discover Lauren had this blog when she started working at a sister title to the magazine I edit. I have blogger friends but they're more the virtual kind. None of my real life friends could be bothered to do what we do daily so I can't tell you how refreshing it was to meet Lauren and see she was a fellow blogger (more of a tumblr actually but still equally as fabulous).

ArtyFarty Cooking looks at the link between food and feeling and as Lauren describes, 'combines eating with design, using food as a medium to challenge and re-design traditional eating rituals in Western culture today.' Impressive huh? Check out the blog by clicking here and make sure you visit back daily for food/design inspiration.

IF ONE WORD COULD SUM UP THIS YEAR...

If I was going to sum this year up so far with one word it would probably have to be organisation. Since New Year and the promise I made to stop procrastinating and actually just get on with things, I've been a busy bee sorting the areas of my life I'm not so keen on. Cue moving back to mum and dads while I learn to drive, get myself on the road and then I can move into a gorgeous apartment block I've seen. Its next door to my best friends house and it has a proper dining area and everything! The smallest things...

With that in mind, getting organised can only mean one thing. A brand new note book and organiser, just like when it turned September and I needed new of everything to go back to school. Last years pencil case just wouldn't cut it now I'd moved up into year nine.

I'm a huge fan of Paperchase and could pretty much spend all day in there getting inspiration from prints I'm designing (which is another idea I'm finally taking steps with) or just to look at all the gorgeous stationary, laid out like sweets. I know I don't need all these, but would it really be excessive to get one for body, home, love and work? No, thought not.

IF I CAN'T HAVE MY MIU MIU'S...

The one pair of shoes I remember seeing everywhere this season, from editorials to blogs, are the glitter chunky heeled Miu Miu's. I absolutely fell in love but had no where near the amount of spare money to be able to afford them. Then I came across these beauties in Topshop. Hello, come to mama! Although they're not as high as I would have liked (I'm a five inch or more girl) they'll go perfectly with skinnies for a dinner out. What do you think of these Miu Miu like shoes?

EMMA STONE FOR REVLON

I know most girls will be able to relate to this post when I mention the word skin. In an ideal world I'd be spot-free and glowing but the reality is after too many late nights, far too much stress for a girl my age and smoking for more years than I care to admit (note I no longer smoke and haven't done since Oct 2010), my skin is now less than perfect.

My face seems to have had a delayed reaction to puberty and has recently had more outbreaks than Night of the Living Dead. So when I turned the page in Grazia last night, Emma Stones immaculately made-up face for Revlon staring back at me didn't help matters.

I'm not usually sold a product by magazine advertising because I know the level of airbrushing that goes into those images bu I'm now reaching desperate measures as my BB cream from No17 isn't really giving my skin the coverage it needs.

This weekend I intend to make a trip to the Revlon beauty counter and buy the full kit, including Photoready skin primer, Photoready moose foundation and Photoready eye illuminator and I'll report back on my findings. I'm hoping its one more step towards Emma Stone like skin. Wish me luck.

What is your favourite foundation and do you have any recommendations for me?

WHAT OLIVIA WORE...

Olivia Purvis is the latest blogger to receive some I Heart Fashion love and not a moment too soon after I spent most of yesterday evening glued to her blog 'What Olivia Did'. From regular outfit posts to photographs from her days out across the UK, Olivia's blog is firmly on my favourites list. I've lived in Leeds all my life and it was actually Olivia that introduced me to the vintage wonder that is Dusty and Dylan. I'll be definitely making a visit sometime soon, especially as it sells my new favourite thing to purchase - homewear.

According to Twitter, the oh stylish one is currently interning at LOOK, just like I did, so I'm hoping they see how fabulous she is and give her a proper grown-up job, with a paid wage and everything.

Make sure you check out Olivia's blog by clicking here.

TATS AND TEMPEST

I'm incredibly excited for June and before you ask, no it has nothing to do with Lizzie Windsor or the Olympics. Being the editor of a menswear magazine (MWB - I'll now allow you guys to check it out here now we have a flash new website) means I'll get the chance to go to the London Collections: Men, the debut three day showcase for the British menswear industry.

I'm not saying that I'll be front row but I'm guessing if I am, I'll need one of the key accessories for any editor/blogger/frower. An iPad in an uber stylish case. This is where London-based Tats and Tempest comes to hand. Launched last year by designer Marcus Tezcan, these ipad cases, plus a selection of laptop sleeves and phone cases, are definitely due a place in the gadget sections of ELLE and GQ. Take a look at these beauties and if anything takes your fancy, click here to visit the Tats and Tempest website

JOHN FRIEDA GIVE AWAY

I'm going blonde on Saturday morning and my god, I seriously can not wait! One style I think looks much better with blonde hair than brunette is tumbling beachy waves. Whitney Port and Nicole Richie are not only two of my style icons, their locks are envy-inducing. Seen as I'm getting approximately 3 inches cut off - yes, in my book that's a huge amount - I hoping to still be able to work this look for summer. I mentioned to the girls over at John Frieda about my hair plights and they were kind enough to not only send me some lush products a couple of months ago to help repair my dry ends, which by the way worked a treat (read the review here) but they've also sent me a video about how to recreate those gorgeous beach waves you can see above.

John Frieda has also been kind enough to give I Heart Fashion five Precision Foam colour Salon Blends, which allows you to achieve professional colour without having to move from the house. All you need to do to win of these five gorgeous shades is to answer the following question: What is the name of the stylist who creates the big beach waves in the video above. Email me at victoriajackson1@hotmail.com with the answer, your name, address and which hair colour you would like and I will chose the winners at random on Friday evening. What a great way to start the weekend with a brand new shade!

NICOLE KIDMAN AND CLIVE OWEN IN AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER

Another magazine, another Prada body outing. This time Nicole Kidman sports the Italian design house in a gorgeous editorial with British actor Clive Owen. The pair are set to star in the up and coming film Hemingway & Gellhorn which takes a look into the life of husband and wife war correspondents. I absolutely adore this editorial spread and if the film interests you then check out the trailer after the jump.

KATE BOSWORTH - QUEEN OF COACHELLA

Actress stroke model Kate Bosworth is undeniably the Queen of Coachella. As head Mulberry girl she was spotted at both the BBQ pool party on Saturday and the evening shindig, of course sporting a series of Mulberry pieces including the gorgeous tiger print tee seen below which I really want to get my hands on. Kate was at the festival with beau Alexander Skarsgard - if there's one reason to go see the new Battleships film, then he is it. The actress has the festival wardrobe down to a tee and if I had legs this good, I'd be sporting a mini this bum-skimming - plus I'm taking this as another reason to purchase some Hunters.

Although not as stylish as Queen Kate, Hollywoods version not Middleton, there was definitely some great festival style spots this weekend, courtesy of the Fab Sugar and Harpers Bazaar photographers. Take a look at these Coachella beauties and let me know what you think of Kate Bosworth's festival style.

COACHELLA TIME

Coachella street style snaps

So I'm a little peeved that another year has come and gone and I'm still no closer to getting off my arse and booking tickets to Coachella. It's this weekend so to make myself feel even worse I've done a little imaginary shopping to see what I'd wear if I WAS there.

Next year myself, Tabara from Ma Cup of T and maybe a couple of others have said we're going to make the effort and book tickets to get over there - if not for the music for the fashion alone! Festival season is one of the only times you can be nearly 30 and get away with wearing neon and clashing prints. Believe me, I'd never wear something like this but an event like Coachella deserves some colour.

What would you wear to Coachella if you were lucky enough to go? (If you're actually going, please refrain from telling me, it will only upset me more).

Check out what I plan to pack for my summer holiday this year and click on the links below if anything tickles your fancy like it has mine.

HAUTE AND FIERCE

When I was imaginary shopping yesterday on Dotty P's website I stumbled across a blogger special with a host of stylish bloggets modelling the stores new 19 collection. Vivienne is the face behind Haute and Fierce, which after looking through for over an hour now has made me want to channel my inner grunge. With an obvious love for midi's, plus a jewellery box to die for, this is a girl after my own heart. I am completely in love with her tattoo above 'Love What You Do'...something I strongly believe in after finally finding my dream job (to-date). Check out some of my favourite looks and as usual follow if you like what you see by clicking here.

PRETTY YOUNG THINGS

On Twitter yesterday morning I spotted a tweet from Dorothy Perkins about its new 'Pretty Young Things' capsule collection. I've only just got chance to take a look now but I wanted to share some of my favourite pieces. This collection couldn't be more perfect for summer, with polka dots, sherbet shades and a textural mix of lace and denim. Give me a polka dot dress and you'll make me smile, but give me it in coral and white and I'll be happy all summer. Although midi's don't really suit my short, stumpy legs I'm going to buy this and have it shortened just to the knee and wear with a denim jacket and sandals, once the sun decides to show its face again. What do you think of the new collection from Dotty P's? If you like what you see make sure you check out the full range by clicking here.

Coral spot midi dress £32

BEST DRESSED OF THE WEEK

Megalyn Echikunwoke in Claire Pettibone

When I spotted actress  Megalyn Echikunwoke in Claire Pettibone earlier this week I knew no matter what happened, no matter how many Elie Saab or Olivia P images were put in front of me, nothing could top this look for Best Dressed of the Week. How utterly breath taking does Megalyn look at the New York screening of Damsel in Distress? The Gothic take on plum lips to the delicate lace capped sleeves, every part of this look makes me melt. My other favourites of the week are fabulous, but sadly nothing comes close to this Pettibone dress and after this outing, I doubt it will be long until we see some more of her designs on the red carpet.

Here's a look at who came a close second to the beauty above including my love Lauren Conrad in a cute Lela Rose dress at the signing of her new book, The Fame Game (which I now have to buy having read every single thing she's ever written). Brooklyn Decker meanwhile looked stunning in a black lace femme d'armes dress, completely outshining Rihanna in the Battleship premier outfits.

Although most people thought Taylor Swift in J.Mendel won the outfit of the night award at last weekends Country Music Awards, for me it was singer Jennifer Nettles in her gorgeous pink Max Azria gown - this is the first time I've noticed Jennifer but I doubt very much it'll be the last.

In another colourful addition Gabrielle Union sported a floor length canary yellow Bill Blass dress looking effortlessly gorgeous in yet another plunging neckline at premier of 'Think Like a Man' - does this woman ever look anything other than glowing?

GLITZ AND GLAM

Mini Sequins Jacket £155 French Connection

After spotting this French Connection sequined blazer in one the of the glossy's last week I've been slightly obsessing over it. Can I afford it, what's the cost per wear, how many times will I weat it etc. For £155 it's slightly over budget but I'm completely in love with it. Is that a good enough reason? I think so.
It's got a slight hint of boho Nicole Richie to it, over a little black dress or even paired jeans and a white tee for the day. As weird as it sounds I actually prefer a little glitz and glam through the day time rather than the evening, it's much more fun and sequins at night always give me a little Strictly Come Dance fever.
You can buy the jacket by clicking here in the UK and here for the rest of Europe.

OLIVIA PALERMO MARIE CLAIRE SPAIN

While Cheryl Cole covers the UK's version of Marie Claire, the Spanish addition has gone a little more high fashion with the gorgeous Olivia Palermo. Looking super tanned, almost a little too much, Miss P looks stunning in this season's Louis Vuitton and Prada. How gorgeous is her hair in the picture below? I want this much volume! Usually I go move on from my style crushes after a couple of seasons but my love for Olivia just doesn't seem to be wavering. The biggest driver of traffic to this site is Olivia and anything I write about her, so much so I'm thinking of creating a dedicated Olivia Palermo style blog - separate to I Heart Fashion but equally as fabulous? What do you Olivia fans think, something you might read perhaps?
